Education

Following graduation from the Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in 1999, Vathana has specialised in Paediatrics over the last 20 years. She has worked both in Australia and the UK. Some of the specialist centres in paediatrics include The Royal London Hospital and University College London Hospital and currently working at Monash Children’s hospital.

Senior roles have included
Lead Neonatal developmental therapist (current)
Lead physiotherapists in adolescent pain and fatigue
Multi disciplinary diagnosis service with developmental delay and CP
Mentoring and teaching to staff specializing in Paediatrics.
Health promotion and setting up services in- oncology, obesity, pain, outpatients, chronic fatigue

Vathana has extensive experience in hospital and community settings working from neonates and babies to adolescents and transition to adults services, diagnosing and treating complex presentations.

Vathana’s role is to mentor and provide clinical oversight over paediatric services and support growth and development in the therapy team.

Vathana feels her role as a therapist is as a facilitator to show families and young people how to achieve their best and enjoy their life to the maximum. She is pragmatic and a problem solver and loves a challenge. She helps to look at all aspects of life and supports families to adopt lifestyle changes to accommodate therapy needs.

In her spare time, Vathana enjoys live music and any opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and paddle boarding.
