How We Get Results
Our approach is adaptive and evidence-based and here are some examples of how we help you achieve important goals:
We teach you about ways you can influence your child’s difficulties.
Examples:
1. For a child who has stiffness/ spasticity, we explain what can make stiffness worse e.g. over excitement, anger, too much effort.
So we might set up a game in standing but to stop stiffness building too much we choose a simple game like a game of hangman or finding a hidden picture in a book rather than trying to build a tower. It would be better to support building the tower in sitting with more relaxed body.
2. For a child who is more floppy/ low tone we want to excite the body and build up movement so then we use high energy, movement, lots of noise and excitement.
We would choose a fast song with cheering and lots of movement – sitting and standing.
We balance out fun and behaviour support to help your child achieve their goals. The right service will provide the right amount of support and challenge.
We show you how physio fits into your daily routine and how to make it fun and engaging!
A lot of what we teach involves integrating skills you learn in session into a 24 hour day. This includes positioning, handling, playing, dressing, eating and sleeping. This knowledge helps you increase the therapeutic effect that builds on each week while being realistic about how it fits in your family life.
We show you how you handle your child from carrying them, to playing, dressing, eating, sleeping.
We are realistic about how things really fit into family life. Family life and fun is our priority.
We listen and understand each family has been on a different journey to support their child. We will always be an advocate and want to support your child achieve their full potential. We support you in understanding the diagnosis, take the time to understand what has and has not worked, and ensure we always check in with you to ensure we are on the same page.
As children grow up into teenagers, we believe there is a point where young adult voices need to take charge and we want to empower them and fit activity around what is most important to them.
Rather than equipment we have done training in specialist ways of moving your child. Like Bobath therapy, Conductive education, Elaine Owens footwear tuning and gait training to. With careful use of handling and cues, we help your child learn to move and adapt to their surroundings in a variety of positions. We apply the principles of motor learning and neuroplasticity with our expert knowledge on developmental neurology, so we adjust and challenge the brain fully as your child grows up. With imagination and creativity, we can help you uncover multiple solutions and options to addressing a problem to help you achieve the desired outcome you’re looking or striving for.
We measure our progress in different ways. This can be through specific and scientifically validated outcome measures or observations, photos and videos of their movement tendencies. We ensure that we remain transparent and honest with you so you know exactly how your child is progressing and responding to treatment.

Programs & Clinics
Premature Clinic
This clinic runs at Narre Warren. We monitor development formally at 6m, 12m and 24m. This will help to identify issues early, in areas like fine motor, language, and learning/ cognitive skills so you can access the appropriate support sooner.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) Clinic
This clinic runs at Narre Warren. These conditions need experienced therapists guiding the way. This clinic will be about realistic goals and education and working out why things are not falling into place.
Baby Clinics
For those looking for infant physiotherapy in Narre Warren, these clinics are run across all of our sites. This is to provide early intervention to children under 5. These cases are deemed urgent and we will prioritize families getting input as quickly as possible.
Footwear, Orthotics and Gait (FOG) Clinic
This clinic is about getting footwear, orthotics and gait reviewed in detail. For children who have complex movement difficulties, tone and asymmetry, we partner with orthotists to bring together alignment and rehabilitation to improve walking patterns and endurance. We also offer a block of 6 sessions to teach a refined walking pattern.
Equipment Clinic
We have established connections with major wheelchair, standing frame and walker equipment suppliers and can set up trials of multiple items to suit families to come and see what is available. We then prescribe fit and justify needs for funding
Transition Clinic
This is a preparatory service for teenagers moving into adult services. We support young people with a tool box of solutions on how to self manage their conditions, how to prepare for adult services and how to get their needs met. We are passionate about young people having a voice and being ready.
Intensive therapy for CP or global delay
Our intensive programs run over 2-3 week blocks, planned during term breaks or throughout the year for pre-school children. These programs are goal directed and intervention focussed where new skills and milestones are being achieved in shorter time frames.
Hydrotherapy Programs
Hydrotherapy is where we deliver therapy in the water. The use of warm water supports the body to allow more movement but can also be used to challenge the body and build strength. The programs are fun with a focus on whole body coordination, posture, breathing and water confidence. This is the perfect environment to promote freedom, endurance and fun.
Bobath Therapy
A physiotherapist will work with you to look at the movement difficulties your child is displaying and how to optimise good patterns of movement with the use of handling and positions and then introduce this back into play.
Virtual Consultancy Program
We understand that physiotherapy services outside of metropolitan Melbourne can be much harder to access. We also know that finding specialists can be difficult. So we are here to support rural families. We can offer telehealth support and direction on what the next steps are. Please call us to talk through how we might be able to help.
Education
Teaching balance is tricky. Often children have been over supported and they don’t know what to do because they are always caught before they fall.
One of the most common difficulties we see is where children don’t use their hands to hold on, reach out or protect themselves when they are falling.
Over my career and multiple exercises I have provided the one thing I have learnt is a new exercise is something you should be able to do for 5-15mins.
Simply being taught what positions are best is not enough, its important to understand the principle of what is happening so you can influence how your child moves through any position.
