MOVEMENT REPETITION

Over my career and multiple exercises I have provided the one thing I have learnt is a new exercise is something you should be able to do for 5-15mins. Too often I have seen an activity that a child can do for 10seconds and it’s too effortful that they can’t even play or enjoy that position, they cry, become disheartened and it’s not practiced very often because it’s too much effort. For example with sit to stand. Starting with a bench or seat that is higher and playing up and down multiple times (20 times) will get the legs working rather than 3 perfect sit to stands and being exhausted. The easier it is to perform the task the more it will happen.

Also the repetition helps with motor learning pathways in the brain. For children with movement difficulties using the same pathways with the same prompts helps them to learn a new skill.
